The Bedfordshire Greensand Ridge is a narrow elongated area, which lies south of Bedford, in a north-east/south-west orientation between Leighton Buzzard and Gamlingay.

It is entirely surrounded by the Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire Claylands. It is the marked contrast of this island of “Greensand” rising in the middle of clayland vales and low hills, which makes the ridge distinctive and attractive. The area includes heath and pasture, arable land and a wooded landscape.

Several historic estates are within the greensand area, including Woburn, Haynes and Shuttleworth, and villages and hamlets can be seen in folds of the ridge.

There are marked paths in the area.
